MAKING THE APPLICATION ON YOUR OWN

As this is probably the only time where you would have to make an application for a permanent visa to migrate, you must do  this with some care.  However though the process is laborious, it is not a difficult task.   Please be aware that if the information and documents submitted by you were subsequently discovered by the Department to be false you may be barred from making another application for a certain number of years (usually three) and any visa granted based on such information may be revoked.

Many application forms include an application checklist, which lists the required documents to include with your application.

Making the application on your own saves you a hefty RM20,000 which you  would otherwise have to pay if you were use the services of a Migration Agent.  But you have to get  around to get the certification, translations etc. This may entail a trip to Putra Jaya as some of the government departments are located.  Making an application personally ensures minimal delay.

Selecting the correct application form.

The forms are listed by language and a variety of languages are included, including Chinese.

Many application forms include an application checklist, which list the required documents to include with your application.

From the Department’s site, select the form appropriate to your case.

It is easier to scroll down the Alphabetical List than the Numerical List (unless you know the form number).  Download and print out the form. The form has to be filled up in ink.

The forms are subject to change, generally this occurs a few times a year. Prior to submitting any application you should ensure that you have completed the most current form and adopted the correctprocedure.

For example, the Department announced recently that from July 1st, the visa application will be overhauled and skilled workers who are interested to emigrate to Australia will have to lodge an ‘Expression of Interest’ in ond skilled workers who are interested in emigrating to order to be considered for a skilled visa.

Prior to that it is simply a question of submitting your completed form and wait for it to be processed.

As this is a major overhaul of skilled migration prescribing  with it many fundamental changes, all these will be covered in a separate post:  NEW REGULATIONS  RELATING TO SKILLED MIGRATION

MAKING THE APPLICATION

[Using a Migration Agent]

Once you have ascertained that you do qualify for a Permanent Visa, then you  will have to consider making a formal valid application. You can make an application using a Migration Agent
You can search for a registered agent outside Australia from the Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority (MARA)https://www.mara.gov.au/

You must ensure that the agent is registered with the Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority (Office of the MARA) operate outside Australia. There are a number of registered agents with offices in Kuala Lumpur.
You do not need to use a migration agent to apply for any visa. However, if you choose to use a migration agent, you should use a registered migration agent operating outside Australia
If you choose to use a Migration Agent, you must ensure that it is registered with MARA. Don’t get caught out using an unregistered agent. Seehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RacpuZ3NQ0

How much does it cost using an agent?
The Department website has some details of the fees you are expected to pay:

Typically,  the fees range between RM15,000 to 25,000.00
Alternately, to avoid having to pay these fees, you may elect to make the application on your own.

THE RATIONALE FOR THIS BLOG.

This blog, written in a journal style, catalogues in the first person singular my journey which started some two years ago from Kuala Lumpur  and  ending  in our being ensconced comfortably in Melbourne.

For a mixture of reasons, Molly, my  wife of forty years have made a most momentous decision  to migrate to Melbourne.

That journey was made in  November 2010. Come November 2012, we would have been in Melbourne for  two years.   A Migrant’s number of  years’ stay has a lot of relevance in monetary terms in that an unbroken continuous stay of two years would earn him a HealthCard. This card determines a broad number of cost related matters. Of primary concern to most migrants would be the cost of health care.  A ten years’ stay would mean a pension.  Full details of the Health Card and Pension are found in  the  other sections of this Blog.

This Blog was created for the twin reason of keeping\ a sort of journal of our new life in Melbourne. It may also be of interest to similarly placed Malaysians  who may have intention to migrate.   We will  try, in as systematic fashion as possible cover all the grounds cataloguing the steps necessary to make for  a successful relocation from Malaysia to   Melbourne.
